Back in 1989, at the Pontiac national convention, the top
Pontiac historian was asked which Pontiacs of modern vintage
(to that point of course) he would save for history/value/fun.
He chose the Turbo Trans-Am, the one with the high HP Buick
turbo, not the earlier POS.
He also chose the last year Fiero Formula (instead of the
GT). I thought the last year Formula was a super looking
car and they solved the handling problems of the earlier
cars. The overheating/fire problems came from cars with
poor maintenance and lots of oil spilled/leaking in the
engine compartment. Keep the area clean and the cooling
system maintained, and no problem. Of course Americans are
not used to keeping cars in good shape, our SHO groups are
one of the few exceptions for the most part.
As for fun, drop a 350 V8 sidways into a Fiero and you can
have a LOT of fun, seen several of them, the motor fits,
believe it or not.
