Sorry, but the '88 Formula was the mid-level Fiero, it's base price was
$10,999 and the GT commanded the higher base of $13,999. Kind of like the
Firebird Formula and Firebird Trans Am deal.

Somewhere in Detroit, there is an 84 Indy with an all-aluminum, twin-turbo,
2.9L V6. It did have a 4-speed (went through about 5 of them) and in 86 got
one of the first Getrags. I remember this car fondly, as I didn't have my
license long, and this was the first FAST car I had ever driven. My cousin
ended up with the car in 85 (his dad was an engineer at GM). I also
remember in 86, he and one of my other cousins (who had a highly breathed on
Shelby Charger) used to race against each other. Amazingly, that Charger
kept pace with the Fiero.

BTW, I do know that 84 Indy's came with an anemic, 92hp 2.5L (non)Tech4
engine. This one was a testbed for a future hot Fiero. But it was
considered too fast by Chevrolet, and since the all-alloy 2.9L V6 was based
upon a Chevy engine (it belonged to the 60-degree V6 family, bored 2.8L),
Chevy really didn't like that idea, a Pontiac faster than the Corvette.

There is also a 1.8L turbo Indy Fiero running around the Detroit area. I
don't know what became of those cars, as my cousins sold them off. Probably
ran into the ground (or into a telephone pole).
