Going back to the "Hot Rod" of my youth I remember reading tests of
otherwise identical cars, one with a 426 hemi, the other with 440 wedge.
The generaal conclusion (at the time) was for street or street/strip use the
440 wedge as just as quick in the same car, and parts were cheaper.
If I remember correctly emmissions killed the hemi as the distended
combustion chamber shape had high NOX emmissions,
Now days I have to wonder, either block in iron plus a 727 ATX must weigh
1,000 #. Engine alone must weigh 775 #, plus oversize radiator
Back to Ford, their were 2 incompatable 428s, which is not the same as a
either 427's or the 429?
I think the hemi was the first with splayed valves, then the porkupine BB
chevey which was the forerunner of the current chevy BB, then the CJ was the
last BB of the big 3 that did not have inline valves..
Isn't it odd that with DOHC engines like ours we are back to inline valves?
Tim
