I think it is just the totally unbalanced situation they find themselves in when
they try to cross a road. It takes them 2 hours or so just to go from one side to
the other....what a target they make for some idiot with no brain. I've seen them
down in the deep south crossing roads. Seems like they were almost there, or I'da
stopped too.

Absolutely. I got the way I am (about hunting....no SHOs yet!) when I went inside
our old garage to shoot a blackbird that had gotten caught in it....lots of holes in
the roof, so one more 22 long wouldn't matter. I got him in the head, from a whole
6 feet away. I felt like a heel....that was when I was 14 years old or so.

Never been hunting since.....except for a family of Arkansas Kingbirds that roosted
in a tree next to my room. They sound off like roosters at about 4 am. They're big
thrushes with grey heads and wings and yellow breasts...they look like robins,
except yellow 'steada red. They got the idea after I got 3 or 4 of them over a week
or so with my dad's 16 gauge side by side. They moved down the road a bit, and then
I could sleep with the window open. This was when I was home for the summer from
college, in the middle '60s.
