Ok, I checked and I _DO_ have a different version of Bon Ami... I have
Bon Ami Cleanser with feldspar and calcite and you're referring to the
Cleaning Powder which has just feldspar. 

So the cleaning powder is what to use and the cleanser is too abrasive?
My can is a sort of gold foil here:
