Actually one of the mustang magazines brought up the internal flow
restriction of the 86 EFI 5.0 intake, apparently some of the runners had to
be ported a bit to make the power show up like it was supposed to. 87-93 had
the good ones. Yeah the tbirds had weak heads and I'm pretty sure the cam was
different too, actually each year of the mustang had a slightly different cam
but the tbird one was ALOT different vs. slight grind changes. Not sure about
what cam's they used in the TC's, but I'm pretty sure they changed them
around a bit. As for the IC, they used an IHI turbo when they put it in,
smaller and spooled quicker and a bit higher(safely) which is where a good
chunk of the higher power came from. I still can only guess at why the SVO
had so much more power than any of the TC's. I've still got all my TC go fast
goodies out in the shed, they were in transit when my TC got totaled and
they've been sitting ever since(port and polished head with bigger stainless
steel valves, motorsport cam, 3" high flow exhaust with 3" high flow cat, and
a few other things). Oh well, maybe I'll get another someday. Ciao -Steve

<< The intakes on the 86 Mustang vs 87 - 93 were the same. The big difference
was the heads. In 87 the Mustang went to the E7T heads from the truck line,
whereas the T-Bird kept the older equipment. The Stang motorand the T-Bird
motor were essentially the same. As for the turbo setup there were a ton of
variations, the biggest being the cams used. Also the intercooler setup
accounted for most of the differences. >>
