Typical Gen 1 issue, Paul has a Gen 2.

As George mentioned, you have to make sure that the opening is trimmed all
the way through the forward point of the rear fenderwells, through the point
where the cladding mounts (you have to move the screw). Production
tolerances on the Gen 1 cars also seemed to make some more susceptible to
rubbing than others. The springs don't seem to matter much, either. I had
mine professionally trimmed on my '89, and they were taken out as far as you
could go, and I still got occasional rubbing with a mild set of 16x7" Elite
wheels. You didn't say what the rims and their offset is, but an incorrect
offset can cause problems. Part of the issue with the 16x7" wheels I had is
that I believe they were the stock offset (like 38mm), which is fine with
15x6 or 16x6" wheels, but not 16x7".

Re: tire question (Paul Nimz)

Do any of you guys have a problem with the rear tires scraping under load?
I have 225/55-16's mounted on 7" rims, and with any more of a load than 1
passenger, I get this mad scraping noise from the back. The fender wells
have
been trimmed, new springs and struts installed by a Ford stealer 13,000
miles
(3 years)ago. I kinda think they put the wrong springs in, but I'm not sure.
I need to get new tires, so I was looking at the Continental "Extreme
Contact"
or the "Sport Contact" in a 215/55 or 50 size, hoping that it would
alleviate
the noise factor. The only other thing is maybe spring spacers, but I can't
find them at the usual sources. Waddya think?

(Kudos to the Coalition forces on their successes in Baghdad today)
