The insurance company wants to total it. No surprise there.
The body shop guy says he can get an entire rear clip, both sides, complete, for
$250. That means, other than using my bumper cover, all the parts necessary to fix
it will only cost $250. To me that's amazing!!
Don't have a labor estimate yet. This shop is VERY good regarding working with me
and trying to keep the cost down. The guy has told me the various options regarding
patching or replacing, and he says patching the fender and taillight panel would be
harder to do, even though there would be less cutting, since all the other inner
metal has to be straightened to allow the outer panels to fit correctly. There is
also the subframe under the trunk floor and near the fuel tank to consider....its
been compressed to some extent. Even though there would be more cutting, replacing
the entire clip would be the simpler way to do a better job. I should have an
estimate in a couple of days, and then work will start. After the estimate is
available, time to be fixed will also be known.
The variable on removing the entire clip is the back window. It needs to come out,
and it might not come out in one piece. The good news....if it doesn't, I needed a
new defroster grid anyway. The bad news....I'd lose my decal..."Its a SHO
thing....you wouldn't understand!!!" I suppose I could get another one.....yo,
ANTHONY!!!!
The original labor estimate by the high priced shop was about $4200.
It'll be painted later (by July), so will be running around in primer for a while.
Good news!!
