MTX mainly.  They put the cars on their lots and couldn't sell them.  Ford MADE them take the cars in order to get their allotment of pickups.

Working on them isn't a problem.  They should have been produced in sufficient numbers that the mechanics saw lots of them and so that parts would be plentiful just like for their other engines.  There are probably aspects of their other cars that are just as difficult to work on.  If Ford is willing to put a 24 valve engine in the normal Taurus now, it would be no more difficult for them to put a GOOD 24 valve engine in the Taurus.  Nissan and Honda don't have any problems with putting engines in their normal cars that produce good horsepower, maintain driveability, and are durable.
