[Shotimes] MTX carnage

I found my T.O.B problems were not the bearings at all but the bushings keeping the release rod straight. They were so worn they allowed the bearing to wobble (symptoms were a double-click as I pushed the pedal) as it engaged the PP.
I did not have time to get replacments, so I used Teflon Tape and grease. 1 year and 15K miles later, still perfect!

Subject: [Shotimes] MTX carnage
If anyone is interested, you can get to pics I've taken of the
internal
damage of my old MTX via anonymous FTP at
ftp://email.aafp.org/OUTBOUND/SHO/
Quite nasty. Not the diff pin failure I originally assumed (but if you
look close you can see one of the rivet heads got sheared off). I'm
very
glad I bought a complete new MTX (with quaife) rather than buying a new
quaife alone, hoping to use it in my old tranny. You can also see what
happened to the Grizzly TOB and OEM PP after that 1st gear rolling
takeoff I wrote about last October. The ear broke and it rotated about
20 degrees, then merrily ate into the PP fingers big time. I don't
assume that failure had anything to do with the transmission's death,
but would like some input on that from you guys. I've written SP
Motorsports asking if they can help in any way with the PP / TOB
purchase I have to make before installing my new transmission. No reply
yet. There's another question - what would you go with clutch-wise, if
you were me? I'm wanting to try Josh's ceramic bearing, especially if
SP
doesn't come through with any help. On the PP tip, should I stick with
OEM (cheap) or venture into something aftermarket? From what I know,
all
PP's for our cars are based off the Valeo one, and all use the same
fingers (what I seem to have the biggest problem with).
Thanks,
Justin
