Yes the dash has to come out. The part is cheap around $50. I found it
easier to leave the bracket on the heater box and just replace the control
unit. If just replacing the control there is no need to mess with the a/c
and heat lines. It would be helpful to have a second person to help slide
the dash back. Should be able to do in under 5 hours if you are a good
wrench.
