[Shotimes] ECT Sensor questions!

I put in a new ECT sensor this past summer. Got the part from Ford, and
it was plastic, aside from the threading and internals. So, I wouldn't
worry. Besides, the plastic can withstand fairly high temperatures, and
doesn't have to support any weight in this application.
As for the threading, usually you would put Teflon on so as to allow
easy removal of the part in the future. It also prevents corrosion. I
would take the part out and put some on, then screw it back in.

original Ford part was metal. Should this concern me?
Also, I noticed something on the metal threads of the original part. Is
this some sort of thread sealant? Should I have applied something to
the threads of the new sensor? I didn't, and there aren't yet any
leaks, so maybe all's well that ends well?
