I was that way with my first two cars - totally intimidated by them. Then I
got my Omni and started doing all the work to it - everything from
suspension to clutches and transmisions. When I initially bought the SHO I
was pretty intimidated by it, but I learned real quick it wasn't too hard to
work on. It hasn't seen a shop for service in AGES!

That is really common among car enthusiasts - the wives never figure out why
we spend so much time on our cars. I bet she wishes she had never mentioned
the car! : )

I love the responses I get from people when they see the engine bay or ride
in my SHO - it makes believers real quick out of even the most skeptical
that think it's "just another Taurus."
It's also nice when you come across a gas station attendant that knows what
the car is and compliments it. : )
