Lowrider is finally making progress. It was sitting in a corner of the shop that
fixed the Lexus while we were at the convention....the guy painting it crapped out.
Today it went to Maaco. Someone suggested at the convention that I repaint it the
original Oxford White, so that it would be representative of a factory car. So
that's what I'm going to do. It's ALL apart right now...nothing but metal behind
the front seats except for the carpet, and various wires (and brakes and tires and
gas tank, and other operations stuff...it does run, and run well). They will put
the
outside back together, and I'll do the inside. (Thank goodness THEY can figure
where stuff goes....!!) It will be the base coat/clear coat version that they
offer.
It'll be one material quality step below current factory paint, but back then the
factory paint wasn't as good as it is now. ....some time or other I gotta stop the
cash flow into it....I don't begrudge it the work and restoration, but reality will
have to
step in somewhere. Eva got a good deal on the whole thing....assembly was
originally rather more expensive than they finally settled for. It'll be done in 10
days to two weeks.

I AM going to put the gold pinstripe back on it...that made it look nice!

Then I'll put the tunes back in it and drive it. It will see the '04 convention,
then head straight to Towe Museum, in Old Sacramento. It probably won't make
300,000 miles, but we can try!! It's got 37,000 to go. ;-)

The black car will be following it into the shop....that one will get the best paint
I can find.....just plain black two-stage. The third car will get the really snazzy
paint scheme. And.....there is a brand new something around here that is Lexus
Graphite Pearl, so I don't need two of the same color.

Classic SHO production/restoration around here is about to begin!!

I'll do my best with pictures.....the dig camera is out for repairs for the summer,
and the one I was borrowing at the convention is back with its owner. Gotta go nag
Good Guys to get it back.
