Welcome Robert,
Nice combo with the black on black 5-speed! Ron Nottingham is in Dalton, GA
I think, and maybe he would be interested in giving you a hand on the lash
adjustment. It's not too hard, with the help of www.shotimes.com,
www.shoforum.com & the list, you could probably tackle it no problem. One
tip, use the spreadsheet attached, mark down the shim sizes and flip them
over while you are there (make sure you clean the oil spot off the back!).
That way you have a new surface riding on the cam lobe. It's sounds like
you've done your homework too with the Autozone gaskets. You may also want
to consider plugs & wires (www.forpartsnetwork.com or www.shonut.com the
best price) rad & heater hoses, thermostat, and cleaning the intake while
your doing the top end.
As for the top end noise, try to compare it to other SHOs - some are noisy,
some aren't. The ones that are noisy sometimes will not quiet down - even
with new chain tensioners! My 67k mile 95 is quieter than my old 89 was.
OK, back to lurk mode...

> What's up all you SHO lovers? Just joined the list, so work with me if I
do something wrong. I am in N.W. Georgia and am the current owner of a 93
black on black 5-speed with 130,000 miles. I picked up this car with a top
end noise and am not real sure what to do. I talked to a guy at Ford
Performance Specialists, he said it sounded like a timing chain tensioner,
replaced the tensioner, but I am going to do a valve lash adjustment while
the v/c are off (gaskets are $78 for v/c, Fel-Pro @ Auto Zone). I have a
Ford Service Manual, but the checking with the feeler gauge is not very
detailed. I also don't have the special tools yet, so I am not ready to do
the replacement of the shims right now, but I can see how far off they are,
which ones need replaced. Thanks for all your help.
