 I would replace the axle. It's just a losing battle to mess with the boots.
Especially the split ones! If you are going to sell the car right away then
yes use it. If you are going to drive this car change the axle. It's pretty
cheap and easy. Once the rubber boot is broken unless you are there
immediately to repair it or repack the grease, dirt is already working on
the CV joint itself. With the age of the 89 I would even consider changing
both of them! How long before the boots on the opposite side split?
