The lifetime warranty does not apply to all products.  Mainly handtools.

Drill bits, power tools, outdoor equipment don't count, although I've
tried and succeeded a couple of times!

I have heard of some people having good luck finding very understanding
managers on duty, taking back items they technically shouldn't.
