I'll still say "NO".

You also have to define it as when it became the "SHO V6", and not the
"Yamaha Engineering Exercise Engine". Wouldn't surprise me at all that
Yamaha had a 1,000 different configurations for it, and at one time maybe
they hit 300 on a dyno. But as an engine in the trim configured for the
Taurus.....I stay with "NO".

Still, so what?? People put WAY too much emphasis on a HP number. I'll bet
there's no one here who would like driving a 300 HP n/a 3.0 V6 in a 3,400 #
car as a daily driver.

You guys are trying to put too many conditions on this.  The original 
question was basically "did the SHO V6 ever make 300 HP in some form during 
its development".  What rpm's this would occur at, what the torque band 
would look like, how the engine would feel in a 3400# car, these are all 
interesting discussions but not related to the original question.  Maybe the

engine is capable of 300 HP, maybe some were made in this form, maybe it 
would be impractical in a 3400# car, maybe, maybe, maybe....   But, did the 
dyno ever break 300 when that block and heads were mounted to it?  Cams, 
pistons, manifolds, fuel and spark control- those are all variables that 
could have been changed for the sake of testing.
