You have to look at each tire for each mfr, there is no "standard" for all
225s. FWIW, the 225/50/16 Nitto 450s are perfect on 8" rims. Looking at my
ES100s, it is obvious that the 6" slicer is way too narrow.
The Measuring Rim Width is the rim that makes the tire match the size specs
(tread width, diameter, etc) that the mfr publishes, but it seems to be
accepted as the minimum desirable width for performance as the mfr intended.

I think there is some variance though. They also say the measuring, or
designed rim width for a 235 tire is 8".
I personally think a 7" wheel would be fine for a 225 tire, an 8" a bit
wide. My 235's on 8" wheels are stretched pretty good.
