The Thunderbird and Cougar from 91 or 92 on up had IRS, as did the Mark VIII. Another alternative would be a 85-89 German Ford, go ahead and laugh, Merkur XR4Ti, but it was the weaker 7.5 rear end. The Cougar/Thunderbird V8 had the 8.8, while the V6 had the 7.5, although a better unit than the XR had. You can also get disc brake rear end on some Cougars and Thunderbirds.

You can fit a V8 in it. Strip it and the weight will probably go down to a
good point. I don't know how much rubber will fit though.
