If those who subscribe to the ultra gentle school of
break in saw what the engine goes through at the
powertrain plant where it is dynoed for HP and torque
curves, they would cringe.
Then take a look at how it is cranked and taken off
the line in some plants to the chassis dyno for the
rolling test, then the way some are driven to the
storage lots...I saw this at the Ford Kentucky Truck
plant first hand among other places.
It does not seem to hurt the vehicles but it would
cost a lot to put 20 miles equivalent on every engine.

If improved ring sealing really does happen with this
procedure then the auto manufactures should be able to
devise an at the factory procedure that will provide
the same results. The improved performance, i.e.
better
compression or whatever, should also boost fuel
mileage and lower emissions. I can't beileve that the
manufacturers would not take advantage of that!
