Yes, you do have to remove the rear engine mount to get the PS pump out of
there. The suggestion to use the hoist is to keep from damaging the oil
pan, but a 2 X 6 between the pan and the floor jack works really well.
Are you certain that the leak is PS fluid? The rear cam seal is proan to
leaking and will leak engine oil all over the PS pump. You can check for
this leakage by running your fingers on the underside of the cam sensor. If
they come out oily, the seal on that camshaft is leaking.
A noisy (whine) pump can be caused by air in the PS fluid. I had to vacuum
purge mine twice before I got all the whining noise out of the system. Of
course, if your noise is bearing whine, nevermind.
