The rack is junk, getting the air out is simply done by driving the car a
little bit and make sure that you turn the rack to full extension several
times.. The seal in your rack seem to be junk. Adding a QT of Lucas Rack
stabilizer and seal conditioner is your last choice..

Subject: [Shotimes] Getting Air out of the Power Steering

Well, here's my stupid question for the week:
This goes to Steve W. or anyone that has experience with it. What is the
procedure for getting air out of the system using vacuum? I replaced my
pump several months ago (big thanks to all who helped again!) but I think it
might still have air in the system. I have tried purging several times and
this usually involved sucking out the reservoir and adding fresh fluid and
the symptoms usually go away for a week or so. My symptoms are groans and
pulses sometimes and especially at low speeds an increase effort for a few
seconds like the pump is not pumping fast enough. Is this air or is this
something wrong with the VAPS? Please tell me it's air...
Thanks, JB
