FWIW, I did the "spacer" method on my old 89 and broke 2 motor mount
brackets drag racing.  The 4 bolt pattern on the mount uses the compressor
housing to complete the strength of the bracket.  On my black 89, I just
took the guts out of the compressor, and installed the alum (pretty light)
housing back on there.

It's nasting if that bracket breaks (you have NO front engine mounting), at
the drags mine let go in 1st gear under nitrous and the engine literally
tried to go through the hood (the engine eye lift bracket almost totally
pierced the metal)  Ask Tom W what it looked like after that.  That car was
a piece of junk, but it would suck to ruin a good hood that way.
