[Shotimes] Sluggish steering at high speeds

If your car pulls to the right, it's probably because the rear toe setting is off. In other words, the rear wheels steer the rear of your car to the left which causes the front to go right. You can't fix this by changing the toe settings in the front.

The problem with fixing the rear toe is that on most older cars is that it can't be done since the eccentric bushings at the H-brace are frozen into place.

I'm running stock sizes on my '89, 215/65-15 on over half-worn Michelin
XGT-V4s, also on stock '89 basket wheels. They are super grabby and I get
the 'sluggish' feel on the highway. It seems like I fight it over every rut
and bump on the road. I'm trying to burn these out before finally getting
some 17", so I don't have much experience with different tire sizes. I
thought it was my steering as well and inspected that and didn't find
anything out. I had just had my outter tie-rod ends replaced and was told
they did an alignment. I dont' believe them...car still pulls to the right.
Unless I missed something. /shrug.

Les
'89 Titanium (x 1 1/2 now...)

----- Original Message -----
From: "Michael" <molsen@excite.com>
To: <shotimes@autox.team.net>
Sent: Monday, August 25, 2003 11:48 AM
Subject: [Shotimes] Sluggish steering at high speeds

When I drive at highway speeds, my car is kind of sluggish when reacting to
rapidly turning the steering wheels back and forth, i.e., "zig-zagging" down
a straight line.

My car is now wearing 235/45-17 Pirelli Pzero Rosso on 7.5" wide rims.

However, this sluggishness goes away completely when I put my old wheels
back on (235/45-17 Pirelli P7000SS mounted on 8" wide rims.)
