Bottom line is......something isn't right.
Yes, it could be pinging. But, what if higher octane doesn't fix it? And if
it does, it's a band-aid.
There is an issue, as the motor should live happily ever after on 87.

It's pinging. What octane are you running? Regardless of what Porter says,
you should try running 92 or 93 in the hot summer months (if you're not
already). That will help.
