[Shotimes] Any VW owners on Long Island NY?

Actually, Sayville, N.Y. is 60 miles from NYC. It's an almost rural coastal
town on the east end of Long Island. I think Al got caught in a typical
dealer pricing grind. (ie: he got screwed) I pay $115 a month for parking
less than 10 minutes from midtown Manhattan and my local repair shops charge
between $45 and $65 /hour. This doesn't sound like a NY thing to me, it
sounds more like what car dealers and their 'service' departments do to
people on a regular basis. Regardless of geographic location. When I first
got my SHO I went to Bill Kolb Jr Ford in Blauvelt NY about an hour out of
NYC, and they got me for over $1500 for a heater core replacement, (they
neither changed the hoses nor the clamps and it still smells) and a rear
strut and spring replacement. (on that they put in weaker springs than I had,
and I've been battling that Gen1 'tires scraping on the wheel well' syndrome
ever since) I would NEVER go to a dealer again unless it was a new car and
the factory was paying the freight.

Note to Al, next time that you have dealings in the NYC area, ask one of us
here, there's a good chance that we could save you some $.

Best, Bob (BB-NYC '89)
