No, drag tires like a design-spec wheel to make the tire fit right. As Mark
mentioned, it can pull in the outer edges, but I doubt whether the typical
14+ second car can notice anything. Tire compound/track surface/track
temp/tire pressure/driver skill will all matter much more.

What makes for a better drag tire is a more flexible sidewall, hence low
profile tires are not good for the strip.....the lower the profile, the
worse they are. Assuming he same over tire diameter, a 70-series tire is
much more desirable than a 55-series. Also, tire width isn't a help, a
longer tire pattern works better. You want the rubber to have the biggest
contact patch in the direction of travel. Wide tires are good for cornering
(perpendicular to the direction of travel.....ie, going sideways). soft,
wrinkle-wall tires  (or tall tires with softer sidewalls) put down more
rubber parallel to the direction of travel, hence better straight-line
traction.
