Sounds clear cut to me.

However..The quaife does have the lifetime warranty, but I don't know if
its covered by internal failure of other parts.

FWIW, I've been driving without second gear for almost a year now and
haven't suffered any other problems. I recently changed my trans fluid
and didn't see any metal in it either.

5th gear is lost in my 91 winter SHO.  Tomorrow I have to commute to
teach in Madison (270 mile round trip).  Courtney is telling me not to
drive the car as shrapnel from 5th gear might damage the Quaiffe.  The
alternative is to get out the summer 92 SHO.  Any advice?
