I use to start diesel trucks in the winter for a trucking outfit.  They had
little capped wells that had a spike in them attached to the intake
manifold.  You inserted a grape sized jelly bean with ether in them and
ripped away.  Nothing sounds as loud as a cold diesel starting at -20F
starting.
