[Shotimes] Cam position sensor replacement process

I need to replace my cam position sensor on my 95 ATX.  The new sensor comes
complete with the plastic sensor and aluminum base.  My question is, can I
just replace the plastic sensor part on the car (it looks a lot easier), or
do I need to replace the sensor as a whole?
