[Shotimes] driving around without the instrument cluster

I made several trips to the local UWI with the analog instrument cluster
from my 89 sitting in the garage.
You can easily test the upper cable and the head by connecting an electric
drill to the cable (separate the upper and lower halves in the engine
compartment) and seeing if the speedo registers as the cable is rotated.
FWIW, I've been running the upper cable from a SLO for over a year. It is a
little longer than the stock 89 cable, but works fine.
