And you proved the point, they were NOT in the same car at
the same exact location. Next to each other is not being in
the same spot. And one result does not a "test" make.

You must have the portable K-40 ($299.00)? and have it
mounted so it looks through the windshield? I did some
research and they now have a windshield mount unit, but when
most people think of K-40 they think of the grill mount, no
way it could be mounted the same as a Val 1. Was anything
else plugged into the circuits of either unit that could
lower voltage? There is a lot more to a true test than just
being in the same vicinity in different cars.

And had both units lived the exact same life? Been dropped
the same places, times? Point is you can't guarantee the
performance of two units that have lived different lives.
Could be a fault in the Val 1, I never said they were
perfect, but My Valentine built units have sure been a LOT
more dependable and durable than anything else I have owned.

As you can read in any of the tests done by reputable shops.
Radar waves behave in odd ways in uncontrolled situations.
Highways with signs, bridges, etc, etc, provide a widely
varied "test" situation.

I have no doubt the result you mention was as you describe,
but My point is that you can't make an informed opinion
about ALL K-40's or Val 1's or any other detectors based on
that type of sample.

The K-40 is a very good radar detector, and in their remote
mount models, they have virtually the same direction finding
ability of the Valentine, Their windhield unit does not have
this capability though, and I am sure that is only because
of patent laws.
