Frank:
The short term solution is to replace the headlight switch and possibly
also the MFS (Multi Function Switch).
But the real problem is that ALL the headlight current goes through the two
switches mentioned. It is cheaper to build a car this way but it will cause
problems such as what you are seeing now. The connections build resistance
with age which builds heat from current flow and this destroys the switch.
If you run higher output headlight bulbs it further accelerates the
breakdown. Yes, there was a headlight switch recall on the later cars. My
1993 was recalled and the headlight switch replaced free. I had
unfortunately tried to improve my headlights but adding higher wattage bulbs
and I am sure this was a factor.
The best long term solution is adding a headlight relay harness. Which is
only about $35-70. As with all things you have several levels of quality for
this mod. Build your own harness. Relays are available at Radio Shack or the
auto parts stores. Here are a few places you can check for a really good
explanation.

These are very cheap Taiwan junk with a horrible bright yellow wire harness
covering. I purchased these but I would build my own next time for less
money and a better product!

These are both great website's for telling you about how to properly upgrade
the lighting system.
High output bulbs and parts:

I now have new head light housings. 90W/100W bulbs and the relay harness.
Much better!

> I was driving my car one night and then all of a sudden my headlights
don't work anymore, when I go to high beam it highbeams but it doesn't stay
in "high beam" mode and the headlights don't work. all my other lights work,
what could be the problem? anything similar? maybe the multifunction switch?
I checked in the fuse box and no fuse was blown, unless there is a second
fuse I don't know about.
