To add on,
That 550ftlb per sec for RPM's turns out to be 33000 ftlbs per Minute , so
33000ftlb / Pi*2 = 5252(.11312...)
33,000 ft.-lbs. per minute = One Horsepower (linear), the Pi part is for the
fact the motor work is rotational.

Ok, I'll bite.
It is a constant used for converting units of measurement. Since torque is
measured in lb.-ft (the twisting force of one pound one foot from the center
of rotation) at a given rpm and horsepower considers work over time (550
foot-pounds per second.)
