That sucks he hit your car.  I just can't believe someone is dumb enough to
drink and drive and hit someone head-on, yet smart enough to tell the judge
he started drinking once he got home and be convincing!

One of my room mates tried that last winter in college.  He and another of
my room mates had been drinking, decided to go to the store for more beer,
and rolled their car on a patch of ice just a couple blocks from our house.
They weren't going very fast, and we are pretty sure a CV joint broke on
them, sending them into a slide up a little snowbank that caused the car to
roll.  They tried rolling the car back over to no avail, then they walked
home.  The guy driving stayed there while my other room mate went back out
there to figure out what to do.  When he got back to the car, the cops were
waiting and wanted to know where the driver was RIGHT NOW.  He led them back
to the house, and the guy that was driving tried to say he had started
drinking since he was home, but it didn't work.  He was arrested and spent
the weekend in jail.

Overall, it was probably a good thing though, since this guy would go to the
bar every night and drive home totally smashed, yet never hurt anyone
(luckily) or got caught, but it was just a matter of time.  At least he was
caught before something real bad happened.  Since he was convicted of the
DUI, his license was suspended for 90 days, he had to do some community
service, and go to AAA meetings.  I think he learned his lesson, since he
cut way back on his drinking and was scared to death to even think about
driving after drinking.  Unfortunately he used my bike for transportation
and it got stolen, which is a whole new story! : )
