Due to the clamp down of emissions.
it is for the detection of leaks.
Chyrsler actually has a leak detection pump on their vehicles.
it is a small vacuum pump that can detect a vaccum leak in the evaporative
side of the fuel system.
I have never understood how ford and or the others do it.
One of the tests they due here on our emissions test is a gas cap and filler
neck integreity test.
the place adpaters ob the filler neck and on the cap and the machine goes
thru a 30 second test. you car can fail the e-test here if it does not pass
this part but does well on the 40km/h and idle tailpipe tests...
Biggest problem is having someone not put the cap on right and the light
goes off.
