Pete:
 Is that a ring with small tabs on it? Those are suppose to be there. It's
what's left after the factory stabs the hoses into the A/C ports. If they
are missing it's a pretty good indication the hose/o-rings have been
replaced. You also might consider putting the clamps over your connections
too. Ford started to use these and I think they are a great idea. It forces
the spring lock connection together so the load is somewhat removed from the
spring and o-rings. Seems to keep leaks away longer.
