Have a few questions concerning work I am going to be doing on the '95 MTX
in the near future. It definitely needs the CID sensor's camshaft seal
replaced due to a BAD oil leak. Also, I figure if I'm going to be removing
the timing cover, timing belt, and cam sprockets to replace this seal that I
might as well replace the unknown aged timing belt and the other cam seals.
I did post this on SHOForum, but I know there are experts with some of these
issues here, so I'd appreciate any help I can get. I am going to be
attempting this ALONE, and I am not a SHO expert yet (although with a third
one possibly on the way, it won't take long...haha ) . Here are my
questions at the moment:
First of all, how many hours is this going to take me (conservative estimate
please!!) I'd like to do this on an idle weekend if I can.
Second, I found the procedure for this in the Helm manual, but it lists
using special tools. What can I use to properly remove/install these cam
seals? I have never seen a cam seal before :P
Third, the Helm states to use Silicone Rubber stuff on the seals before
installing... It lists a FoMoCo number. I'm guessing I should probably use
something like this, but I'm sure there is a good alternative. What can I
buy at an AutoZone or the like to do the trick?
Finally, the crank pulley comes off to replace the timing belt. What do I
need to do in this case to remove/reinstall the pulley? I do NOT want to
give myself "crank cancer" because I decided to replace the timing belt!!!!
Is it just as simple as making sure the pulley bolt is Torqued a certain
amount? I will rent a high value torque wrench if that is the case. I do
NOT want to cause any damage to this engine.. it runs like a champ other
than this stupid leaky oil seal.
Thanks a bunch! :)
