The way I look at it, it isn't that far off.  Nascar and other racing series 
started with the plain old Chevy small block.  You blueprint it, port the 
heads, swap in a few different parts, but it started with the same block 
that is in your old pickup.  You could pull that motor out of your pickup, 
add similar modifications, and build yourself a screamer.  It might or might 
not be close to the nascar motor, depending on your budget, skill, access to 
certain parts, and development time.  You can probably do the same thing 
with Fud motors and parts.  They used to do it with Pontiac but can't do it 
anymore.

As for the FWD Monte Carlo, I think if the Monte Carlo came with a V6 and 
FWD, then it should have to race with a V6 and FWD.  Just see what THAT does 
to your new car lines.  :-)
