Ah HA!!!

You're finally catching up with the Lowrider....about 6 years later.....!! You have
EATC, right?

With EATC, the airflow is switched from the dash outlets to the defroster and back
by the defroster door, which is about 9 inches directly in front of the EATC
controller. The system is designed to fail in the defroster position, to make sure
you can drive the car in humid conditions, with a clear windshield. The vacuum
diaphragm (officially called a 'vacuum motor') that runs that door is really chincy,
and can easily break. You either have had the rod that moves the actual door fall
out of the diaphragm linkage (repairable), or, as in my case, there is no more
vacuum being sent to the door, to move it so that the dash vents become active. The
problem is in the controller itself, most likely a blockage due to age and dirt,
that does not let the vacuum signal change in that line. It is a yellow line,
within the 4 or 5 vacuum line system coming out the back of the controller.

I tried over a year or so several ways to fix my system so it would work correctly,
but gave up and just use a coat hangar rod to manually activate the door. Usually I
leave it in vent position, and when I need to defrost the inside windows, I just run
the a/c full blast on recirculate, and in a minute or two, the glass is clear. You
are most likely more humid in your weather that we are here, so you might need it
fixed. It's pretty tough to fix if it is the controller.
