[Shotimes] Problem with shifting and w/ rough idle.. help

Kirk, this isn't good!! So this won't cause any
internal damage as long as the straps aren't
completely gone, would it? :-\ The car did idle like
this once in a while, but it always went away when i
shut it down. Now it's always idling like crap and
shifting crappy 99% of the time. I haven't pushed the
pedal past the 1/4 throttle mark ever since out of
fear for the worst. Actually, it doesn't sound as bad
(so far) as finding a new trans/syncros for the damn
thing! That is, as long as it hasn't damaged anything
else!! Would this also cause the rough idle
characteristics as well? TIA
