Unfortunately, cruise control is one thing I don't spend much time on. It either
works or it doesn't (if it doesn't, I don't keep the car). After the experiences
with the Plus from Hell and the first '89, I make sure the cruise works before I
will consider buying the car, no matter how bad the other parts/systems (that I CAN
fix) are.
According to the EVTM for 1990, two lines come off the vacuum manifold on the
firewall by the hood lifter. One goes directly to the servo, where the cable to the
throttle comes from, and another goes to a 'check valve and hose assembly', where
two more come off, one going to the vacuum reservoir in the fender, and the other to
the servo. a small one comes off the servo to go to the brake pedal. To find out
about the cruise vacuum lines, I'd ask Ron Porter as a start...he mentioned that he
found his problem in the line(s) that are up under the dash above the pedals. In
checking the EVTM, the diagram on page 140-1 shows a small hose that goes to the
'dump valve' on the brake pedal, which is what turns off the system when you tap the
brake. There is also an electric switch there that turns it off, too. That appears
to be the only vacuum line that goes inside the cabin that has to do with cruise.
I'm thinking there is an error in the diagram, as it shows two lines for the cruise
going from the plastic manifold that is adjacent to the driver's side hood lifter.
I'm almost certain that only one line goes to the cruise servo, from the S/C
fitting, which stands for speed control. The book shows another one, from the B/B
fitting (meaning unknown to me) also going to the cruise servo. I don't think that
is right.
Sorry I'm not much more help than this.
