[Shotimes] Aftermarket KYB Struts?

This 18 yr old doesn't have SHO blood in his veins.... yet. The
transfusion is slowly taking place. Right now he's not smart enough to know
that he wants a better suspension. : )
As usual, one question spawns more questions. I knew I was eventually going
to have to study this area more anyway, so now's the time. When I got the
car, it came with another set of springs in the trunk. They looked like
stock springs to me, but the ones on the car also look stock. So it may be
that I have both flavors here. I know that the springs have markings on
them, so I'll have to record the data and then check back in with you all to
see what's what.
The flat roads here in FL won't really tax the struts like back up north.
Potholes are few and far between.

If he has the 80mm MAF, he probably has an LPM, also. Just good to know if
it ever starts running funny.
Yeah, the KYBs are weaker than stock, but with stock springs for everyday
driving they are fine. I have to admit that I had Monroe struts put on my
'89 when it was 5 years old with about 90K miles on it, and I felt that they
were comparable to stock (these weren't the Sensamatic, or whatever they
call them now). If he doesn't want to do suspension upgrades, just stay with
what you have.

I'm still in the process of determining what all aftermarket changes are on
my son's 95 MTX. The original owner liked his car enough to do a lot of the
BOS stuff (SHOShop Y-pipe, catback, CAI, 80mm MAF, whiteface gauges)
although in the short amount of time I had to buy the car I couldn't tell
what all was there, and the interim owner didn't have a lot of knowledge
about SHOs. I just discovered the Y-pipe today. Kinda neat to find these
little treasures.
Back to the subject. I remember KYB struts being discussed a long time ago.
They have a gray casing. I assume these struts aren't in the same league as
Konis or Tokicos, right? Anything I need to know about them? My opinion is
that they're okay from driving around in the car. I believe the suspension
is stock otherwise. Given the car is still a mere pup in SHO years and
miles (68K miles), I don't have any reason to change the struts.
Thanks and Cheers,
Carl
