I also think it matters to some extend how many suspension mods you've made.
On my son's 95 MTX with no suspension mods, the ride ain't too bad with his
17" wheels. On my 92 with a littany of upgrades, my car is quite stiff, and
this is still with slicers and 215/60 H rated tires. I actually go out of
my way to avoid patched blacktop so as not to get vibrations in the cabin.
So no matter how much I like the look and better selection in the 17" size,
I'm going to stick with 16" wheels and possibly go to an 8" wide after I do
some more research. The Aussie ROHs are the leading contenders at this
point.

As I told Carl in an earlier private post, I would personally only go to a
17" rim on a SHO if I were installing bigger brakes that required them,
otherwise I would stay with a 16" rim. Good tire choices, handling can be as
good (if not better on rough surfaces), and also lighter weight.
I hope when you say a "pair" of 17x7 wheels that you already have 17x7 for
the other two rims. Mixing different tires on rims is bad enough, mixing rim
sizes is over the top!!
