Could it be a cam seal? This sounds like my oil leak problem, except I
think my car's had the leak since I got it. It makes the engine bay smell
like oil (and the smell changes very soon after the oil is changed). I'm
thinking about investigating further when I get a chance, but for now I just
keep tabs on the oil level.
I checked my oil senders and there is no oily residue on either one.

sudden oil leak dripping on exhaust is usually an oil sender unit. $6 part
5 min replace job
