[Shotimes] MT5

It's all in the point of view, "glass half-empty or half-full" deal.........

The Taurus was a "revolutionary break" for Ford, and maybe compared to other
Big 3 cars, but not compared to the imports on the market. To me, it wasn't
any more of a 'revolutionary break" than were the GM X-cars that came out 6
years earlier.....Ford was very late to the FWD family sedan market. I
believe the 5-speed would have been done for the SHO even without an MT-5.
The existence of the SHO was due to bigger issues at Ford. Besides, the
imports they were competing against offered manual trannies in the cars. To
not have one would have been foolish. In fact, they could have sold more if
they offered it in the V6s. Another Ford screw-up, IMHO.

If you feel the MT-5 has significance, that's your opinion and you are
entitled to it. Some of us have the opinion that the MT-5 was a very lame,
half-hearted attempt to have a low-end car to compete against the other
low-end import cars. Sorry to say, but I'll bet that any 1987 Honda
Civic/Nissan Sentra/Toyota Corolla with the standard engine and a 5-speed
would trounce the MT-5.

Look... If there had not been an MT5, would there ever have been an MTX
SHO? Methinks not.

Make all the jokes you want. SHO owners who like the MTX, by rights, should
show some respect for the MT5.

>From the perspective of almost 20 years later it might be hard to grasp
this, but in its day, the 1986 Taurus was a revolutionary break from the
past.

If I want to respect the heritage of the SHO, the least you people could do
would be to watch the classifieds for me. Thanks.
