2.5L 4 cylinder engine. I had an 87 for many years.

Remember, if there were no MT-5's, there would have been no Taurus 
SHO's. Don't know what Ford would have done with the Yamaha engines, 
but they put them in the Taurus because the MT-5 made it a drop-in. 
The floor pans, subframe, etc, are different for an automatic.
