[Shotimes] pulley to battery clearance

Well, the car had a 445, and O'Reilly's listed 445, so I got a 450 - it's
better, but I think bigger would have been better still. I didn't get a 460
as you advised because I thought you might be off by a factor of 10 "off the
top of your head." Thanks for the help.

Be careful when replacing the A/C belt, all the auto parts stores in this
area have the wrong size listed. They always give me a size smaller than
what I need. Off the top of my head I think they always give me a 455 and I
need a 460.

If the belt is the correct size, I'd double check the tensioner. Make sure
the adjusting screw is not wedged inside the bracket housing (ie the e-clip
is missing and the screw head fell into the bracket housing).

Let me know if you have any other questions!

Yes there should be... typically the clearance disappears when the tensioner
pulley is out of adjustment. ie, the accessory belt is either loose or is
too small. Check the tension in your A/C belt. There should be plenty of
room between the pulley and the battery.

Do you mean the belt tensioner pulley or the alternator pulley? On the
tensioner, the outer pulley can move away from the bearing in the center or
the nut on the tensioner pulley can come loose, allowing it to move some.
This happened to mine and chewed up a belt once. If the pulley is not lined
up with the bearing, it can be pressed (or beaten) back in to place.
