I took the manifold off and used a cutting torch to heat the manifold up. Then I put the vice grips on the broken stud and worked it back and forth until it came out. The only big PITA part was getting the manifold out due to the oil filter being in the way. I didn't have to take the other side off so I couldn't tell you how easy/hard that would be.
